Pool Updated

Filed under: GMod Tower — MacDGuy @ Jan 10th, 2008

A couple weeks ago, I stated the Pool was completed. That was correct, but I had some people test it with me and give their own opinions on any additions and bug fixes I needed to make. Because of this, I added a few different things and fixed quite a lot of bugs. I optimized the map, fixed the reflections, improved the lighting for the bar, added player clips, fixed some of the water, changed some textures (and lined them up properly), and improved func_detail usage. That’s just what I fixed; here are the additions:

Sniper suggested that I add a window on the side of the bar to make it seem a little less constricted.

As we messed around on the map, we found that a small volleyball court would be a nice addition.

Butt Face coded the SENT for the tube. I plan to add multiple textures with different designs and colors in the future.

Also, Sniper and Slash bugged me to add some side ladders in the deep section (where the diving boards are placed).

That’s all I have for today. Once again, I’m planning to have another media update on Puzzle: Impossible tomorrow.

Puzzle: Impossible - Level 9 Update

Filed under: GMod Tower — MacDGuy @ Jan 9th, 2008

Slash has been working pretty hard on Puzzle: Impossible for the past couple weeks. Because of how far he’s gotten into it, we have been doing some small play testing. I’m going to show you a few parts of the beginning of his level.

He added a new ceiling in for this puzzle:

There’s more I could show, but I’ll leave that for Friday’s update.

 Mini-Golf and General Chat

Filed under: GMod Tower — MacDGuy @ Jan 8th, 2008

I recently picked up progress on Mini-Golf again. I’m nearly done with it too.
I decided to open up more of the “castle” section of the course to make room for more holes. Because of this, the original hole 11 has changed to hole 12. I did this to create a zigzag layout for the holes.

Here’s the new hole 11:

I also added one of Sniper’s designed holes:

Slash sent me a couple updated screens of General Chat. The kiosk now has flat screen monitors.

Again, you can expect another media update tomorrow.

 General Chat Update

Filed under: GMod Tower — MacDGuy @ Jan 7th, 2008

General Chat is the communications and transit hub of the tower. This floor contains the elevators linking to the upper server. All chat in General Chat is only displayed to other players who are currently located in it. There is also an information kiosk in the center.

You can expect another media update tomorrow.

 Pool Finished; Video

Filed under: GMod Tower — MacDGuy @ Dec 22nd, 2007

I apologize about the huge two week delay. I really don’t have an excuse other than the holidays.

In case you haven’t realized (I haven’t felt it yet), it’s been a full year since the idea of GMod Tower was posted on Facepunch. Since then, our team has been working hard to make the idea become a reality. I’m glad our project has lasted so long, and I’m amazed by the amount of effort we’ve put in to it. Having a friendly community back us up really helps. We couldn’t have made it this far without you guys. Thank you!

Today’s update contains a short two minute video of the finished pool. After minor complications, Slash and I managed to get it recorded.
A couple things weren’t ready when the video was recorded, such as the water tubes. The SENT for the water tubes was completed today, so now you can actually get in the tubes and ride the lazy river like it was designed for. Another thing that wasn’t included is a fully functional bar. The bar’s geometry is setup, but the scripting for it has not yet been coded. When done, there will be an NPC taking orders for drinks, snacks, and more. You’ll also notice the tower has not been inserted into the map yet. That will be done once every other thing has been completed.

You can watch the video on Stage 6 by clicking the thumbnail below:

As stated above, the pool has been completed.
I added a bar for those wanting a drink (or two) while relaxing at the pool.

I also added three jacuzzis. As an added bonus, the jacuzzis heal you.

I blocked the gray in the skybox by adding some hills. It’s not a 3D skybox because there are other outdoor places that have not been finished yet.

There’s a pretty large hole where the tower will fit into.

Last but not least, an overview shot:

Not to mention, I also fixed every issue I was having with Chef Louie’s.

Again, thanks for your continued support!
